This calculator prices fabrication — it doesn't select or approve the structural design. Available ordering lengths, and the suggested splice count and bearings, are starting points only. Your engineer must confirm the beam section, splice arrangement, bearings and connections for your project.

Non-standard beam? Get a quote →A full-length steel beam usually can't be carried up the stairs or through the attic hatch of an existing house. A spliced beam is cut in multiple pieces with bolted end-plates, so it goes up in pieces and is bolted together in the attic.
Choose the section and clear span. Your engineer or architect specifies the beam size for the job.

Attic Steel supplies spliced universal beams (UBs, often called RSJs) to homeowners, builders and attic conversion companies across Dublin and the rest of Ireland.

Straight answers to what people ask before ordering.
A spliced attic beam is a steel beam made in multiple lengths (up to six, on the longest beams) that are joined with bolted end-plate splices. The pieces are light enough to carry up through the house and bolt together in the attic, so you can fit a full-span beam for an attic conversion without a crane. Read the full guide →
Two standard universal beam (UB) sections: 203×133×25 UB (25 kg/m, lengths 4.0 to 12.0 m) and the stiffer 254×146×31 UB (31 kg/m, lengths 4.0 to 12.0 m). Lengths outside this range or other sections can be quoted on request. Which size do I need? →
The live price on the website starts at €525 ex VAT for the 203×133×25 UB and €630 ex VAT for the 254×146×31 UB, and includes one splice, sandblasting, painting and bolts. Longer spans, extra splices, drilling and wall plates add to the price. VAT at 23% is added at checkout. See prices by span →
